My research aims to understand magmatic processes at active subduction-related volcanoes starting from the initial melt generation to the modification processes that occur during transit from the magma source region into the crustal reservoirs before ultimately reaching the surface as volcanic eruptions. Through my research I also reconstruct eruptive histories for active volcanoes to better constrain the rates and magnitudes of volcanic eruptions which have important implications for volcanic hazard mitigation and forecasting.
To study these topics, I use explosively and effusive erupted material from active volcanoes located in the Andean Southern Volcanic Zone (SVZ) of southern Chile and the Izu-Bonin Arc of Japan. Techniques I utilize in my research:
